Asked my family doctor?
Jerry back from Laryngitis and this is easily
the recording for listening to this show.
(Would be better to label this Soundboard
instead of live concert.)
You can hear that Garcia is still not 100% on the vocals but it sure doesn't trouble his guitar work.
This recording has good separation of instruments plus Jerry's vocals not drowned out here.
1st set takes some time to get going but by the time they get to MUSIC they are flying. Not the longest MUSIC NEVER but listen to PHIL and the rest of the band just go for it! SMOKIN'
Second Set -There seems to be a little hesitation on what they want to play at certain points during this show. Tune choices pre-drums are good - the Other One is hot.
If you like listening in on the band's ongoing conversations this is a good recording for that.
(Just before Deal you can hear Bobby decline an El Paso.)
Franklin's makes for a strong closing Jerry dance number...
If you like Phil, this recording has a lock on Phil's bass bombs.

Even though Jerry was now singing again ...!
I wasn't as inspired as in San Diego. (Yes it was my first "Passenger", "Cassidy", and "Mexicali Blues" at my 8th show. But as you know, there would be many, many to come!) Yet what am I saying since of course, we were back at the Shrine again where one can't go wrong with the acoustics! Although I'd a lousy tape of this for years, even the not so good shows here are better that some of my poorest old copies! And the this is the first time I ever got, (snuck in this case), backstage. But of course that has nothing to do with the performance! I think this was the last "Sunrise" I saw, which I liked but not as much as in San Diego. I have to agree with the reviewer who liked the end of the 2nd set at least up to then in history although like I just said there would be many to come!

Nice little 4 star
FOTD, Cassidy, Music, whole first set is great. Second set has a really great estimated and a sizzling other one, like Market Square Arena, but the Franklins, Wharf Rat and Arnd and Arnd crush it -Jer's voice is shot but they really rip the Shrine up. Sound quality is not as good as the others but you will not be dissapointed and this certainly deserves more attention than 3 ratings.... Enjoy

Jerry sings!
Garcia's first night at the mike after his bout with laryngitis. The band sets a nice bouncy pace with Bertha, his singing understandably tentative. The overall sound of the band is strong (great soundboard quality here; turn it up), with plenty of energy in Garcia's solos. There's some sharp squawking due to microphone feedback several times during the first two tunes. A rockin' Passenger. Garcia really does a nice job of singing and playing generally, with the first set stronger than the second. His second run thru Deal is mighty exciting. Franklin's is perfunctory, but Weir throws in his China Cat lick in the jam after the last verse. Around & A cuts out on the rise after their quiet section (7:11). I'll give this a "4" for the energy, and especially for the nice SBD, but not quite in the same boat with the musical peaks achieved ahead (1-22; 2-3; 2-5).
